SCESC Pathways Academy

Pathways Academy is a 210 day secondary special education program for students, ages 18-21, who have satisfied the State academic requirements for graduation and are eligible to receive further education in the areas of career development, life skills, instruction, and transitional supports. The program's goal is for our students to gain functional employment skills and greater independence in adult life.

About Us

The Somerset County Educational Services Commission (SCESC) is a public educational agency, established under New Jersey Statute Title 18A, serving as the catalyst for cooperative education, administration, and financing. Since 1978, SCESC consistently grows and adapts its programs and services to meet the ever changing needs of school districts and their students.
 
The SCESC offers the following:
 
·    Transportation Services
Special Education Transportation services: Quoting, bidding, coordinating, troubleshooting, and all State contract preparation.
Public/Nonpublic Transportation services: Bid preparation (nonpublic, charter, choice, and field/athletic) and route analysis. 
 
·    Career Center, Grades 6‑12+
Special education program: Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, Music Production & A.V., Supermarket Careers, and Structured Learning Experience.
 
·    Pathways Academy, Ages 18-21
Special education program: 210 day school year, providing life skills, career development, instruction, and transitional supports.
 
·    New Dawn Academy, Grades 6-12
Alternative education program: Therapeutic component includes wraparound mental health and psychiatric services provided by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
  
·    Special Education Programs, Grades K-12+
IEP required, speech/language and occupational therapy services included (up to one 60 minute session per week).
 
·    Alternative Education Programs, Grades 6-12
Restorative practices, proactive behavioral interventions, and BEP incentive program. 
 
·    Interim Placement Programs
 
·    Alternative to Suspension Programs
 
·    Extended School Year Program (current students)
 
·    High School Credit Recovery Summer Program (open to public)
 
·    Nonpublic/Public Services 
Public services: CST evaluations, speech evaluations, and home instruction.
Nonpublic services: Chapters 192/193, Chapter 226 Nursing, Technology, Textbooks, Security Aid, and home instruction, as available.
